San Francisco Film Society Presents: In Conversation: Bay Area Filmmakers and September 11

September 18 at 7:00 pm, the San Francisco Film Society will host a round table discussion entitled In Conversation: Bay Area Filmmakers and September 11 in the Palm Room at the San Francisco Film Centre in the Presidio.

Roxanne Messina Captor, Executive Director of the Film Society, took a moment to reflect on the Film Society’s plans to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the shattering events of September 11, 2001 saying, “The events of the last year have had a profound impact on the way we in the film community approach our art. Issues of artistic vision, funding and free speech have been radically altered. We will gather and discuss how this major world crisis has impacted a medium that’s known for breaking down barriers.”

Lynn Hershman Leeson (TEKNOLUST, SFIFF 2002), Caveh Zahedi (I DON’T HATE LAS VEGAS ANYMORE, SFIFF 1994), Henry Rosenthal (I DON'T HATE LAS VEGAS ANYMORE, producer, SFIFF 1994) and Sophia Constantinou (DIVIDED LOYALTIES, SFIFF 2001) will be among the participating Bay Area filmmakers.

A donation of $5–$10 will be requested, but no one will be turned away. Net proceeds will benefit the Twin Towers Orphan Fund (www.ttof.org), which was established on September 13, 2001 to assist the children who were orphaned (who lost one or both parents) by the terrorist attacks on September 11. TTOF is not a disaster relief fund, but instead is a long-term higher educational and health care support trust fund with a life span of more than 20 years.

The San Francisco Film Society, presenter of the 46th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 17–May 1, 2003), is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to lead in expanding the knowledge and appreciation of international film art and its artists.
