Roxanne Messina Captor, Executive Director of the
San Francisco Film Society, announced the appointment of Marly Norris
as Director of Development of the San Francisco Film Society. Norris
will oversee all development and marketing activities for the Film
Society including audience and membership development, corporate
sponsorship, foundation and major gifts.
"We're in the middle of our biggest and most successful fall
season ever, headed into our 46th San Francisco International Film
Festival," said Messina Captor. "Marly brings with her
a wealth of background and expertise. She is an addition that will
strengthen our growth and plans for the future."
Most recently Norris was the Development Director at Yerba Buena
Center for the Arts where she oversaw all development activities
and helped Yerba Buena push past the million dollar mark in foundation
support while continuing to boost individual giving to levels not
seen since its opening. Prior to YBCA she was a Development Officer
at the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, where she increased
foundation gifts by nearly 30 percent and raised funds to support
additional performances and extend training programs for an extra
week. Norris' West Coast development career began at Mill Valley's
Marin Theatre Company, where she worked for two years specializing
in foundation and corporate support. Her professional career began
in New York City, where she worked in concert promotion for Metropolitan
Entertainment, organizing rock concerts at such venues as Madison
Square Garden, Beacon Theatre and The Ritz.
Norris said "I'm delighted to join Roxanne and the incredibly
hard-working team at the Film Society. There is such enormous potential
for this organization. I look forward to helping them be more of
a presence in the philanthropic community."
Norris grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from the
University of Missouri - Colombia, with Bachelor of Arts degrees
in English Literature and Film Studies. She is a board member of
the Association for Fundraising Professionals and serves on the
board of the Encore Theatre Company.
