Films
that Appeal to the Edgier Sensibility
The 46th San Francisco International Film Festival
(April 17 - May 1) is thrilled to announce EXTREME CINEMA,
a program for cinephiles who enjoy their films dark and visceral.
This is the second year the Festival has presented the program,
and it once again promises not to disappoint. Carl Spence, director
of programming for the Festival, says "After the phenomenal
success of the first midnight series during the 2002 Festival, we
are pleased to present four new works that will appeal to edgier
sensibilities including the U.S. premiere of SO CLOSE from
Jet Li collaborator Cory Yuen and the North American premiere of
DOUBLE VISION from Taiwan."
CABIN FEVER (Eli Roth, USA)
Directed by David Lynch protégé Roth, CABIN FEVER
tells the story of five dimwitted, foulmouthed college students
who escape to a cabin deep in the woods for a post-graduation vacation.
When a demented stranger covered with oozing, bloody sores appears,
things turn very, very ugly.
DOUBLE VISION (Chen Kuo-fu, TAIWAN)
A washed up Taiwanese cop teams with an equally burnt-out FBI agent
(David Morse) to search for a brain-altering black fungus, evil
Taoist sects, supernatural forces and a psychotic serial killer
on the prowl in Taipei.
THE EYE (Danny Pang, Oxide Pang, HONG KONG/THAILAND/UNITED
KINGDOM)
Directed by twin brothers, THE EYE is the story of a young
woman who has been blind since the age of two and has recently gotten
a cornea transplant. The main complication is that now she's seeing
things, but her visions are not exactly of angels and elves.
SO CLOSE (Cory Yuen, HONG KONG)
Jet Li action director, Cory Yuen, brings great style to this film
about two foxy sisters who inherit a computer agency from their
murdered father and use it the way most people would: to assist
their jobs as deadly assassins. Starring three of Hong Kong's most
popular actresses, Karen Mok (Wong Kar-wai's FALLEN ANGELS), Shu
Qi (MILLENNIUM MAMBO) and Zhao Wei (SHAOLIN SOCCER).
Guinness is the exclusive sponsor of EXTREME
CINEMA.
