SAN FRANCISCO FILM SOCIETY INITIATES SEARCH FOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

August 11, 2005

San Francisco, CA - The San Francisco Film Society is undertaking a global search for an executive director to lead the organization to the 50th anniversary of the San Francisco International Film Festival and beyond. Melanie Blum, president of the Film Society's board of directors, announced that the board is "seeking an individual who shares the vision of the board and staff and will work closely with both to continue the excellent programming that the Film Festival has presented over the past 48 years, while looking for new ways to educate, entertain and enrich our audiences. We hope to have someone in place very soon." View the detailed Executive Director profile.

The Film Society is growing and launching exciting new activities including expanded year-round film screenings and educational programs, and most recently initiated an annual State of Cinema address and the Kanbar Award honoring excellence in screenwriting. The recently concluded 48th San Francisco International Film Festival screened 185 films from 49 countries for audiences totaling 77,000. Plans are well underway for the run-up to the 50th anniversary of the oldest film festival in North America in 2007.

The San Francisco Film Society is a nonprofit arts and educational organization dedicated to celebrating international film and the moving image.
