The Film Society Award for Lifetime Achievement in Directing is given each year to one of the masters of world cinema. This year's recipient is Taylor Hackford.

Peter J. Owens Award
The Peter J. Owens Award, named for the longtime San Francisco benefactor of arts and charitable organizations, honors an actor whose work exemplifies brilliance, independence and integrity. This year's recipient is Joan Allen.

The Kanbar Award

We are proud to announce a new Award for this year's Festival to honor the craftsmanship of writing for the silver screen. The Kanbar Award for excellence in screenwriting will be awarded to Paul Haggis.

Golden Gate Persistence of Vision Award
The POV Award honors the lifetime achievement of filmmakers who craft documentaries, short films, animation or work for TV. This year’s recipient is Adam Curtis.

Mel Novikoff Award
This award is bestowed annually on an individual or institution whose work has enhanced the filmgoing public's knowledge and appreciation of world cinema. This year’s recipient is Anita Monga.

Golden Gate Awards
Innovation, imagination and passion are the hallmarks of these award-winning docs, shorts, TV productions and experimental films and videos. The winners will be announced Wednesday, May 4 at the Golden Gate Awards Ceremony. Tickets are available to the public for the announcement of the winners of the SKYY Prize, FIPRESCI Prize and the Golden Gate Awards. Toast the achievements of the 48th Festival’s filmmakers and celebrate the creative community of media professionals that each year contribute to the process.

SKYY Prize
The SKYY Prize is given to a new filmmaker whose work exhibits a unique artistic vision. The winner will be announced Wednesday, May 4 at the Golden Gate Awards Ceremony.

New at this year's Festival, the award will be granted to a film chosen by a jury during the Festival. The winner will be announced Wednesday, May 4 at the Golden Gate Awards Ceremony.
