The SFFS Education Program presents several other film exhibition opportunities throughout the year in collaboration with many key partners. Check this page for new announcements each month.

French Films & Schools
Presented in partnership with the Consulate General of France in San Francisco.
October 15, 2007, Aquarius Theater, Palo Alto
October 16, 2007, Bridge Theatre, San Francisco

Each fall, in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in San Francisco, we present this free education program designed to expose high school French students in the Bay Area to the wonderful culture of France through film. Over the last few years French Films & Schools has challenged students with such films as Brodeuses by Éléonore Faucher, Cyrano de Bergerac by Jean-Paul Rappeneau and L’Enfant by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne.

Bad Faith
France 2007, 88 min
More than 450 French language students from Bay Area high schools attending two screenings of Roschdy Zem’s engaging film, which explores the emotional and familial complications experienced by a mixed faith couple (Clara is Jewish, Ismael is Muslim) in Paris when Clara becomes pregnant. The program also included two short films by French animator and current Pixar employee Louis Clichy followed by a Q&A with Louis conducted in both French and English.

The World According to Sesame Street
USA 2006, 90 min
In recognition of the key role teachers play in supporting and participating in the SFFS Education Program, we presented a free wine-and-cheese reception and evening screening exclusively for Bay Area educators. About 100 teachers of all grade levels and curricula mingled in the theater lobby before a screening of the Sundance award-winning documentary The World According to Sesame Street, about international productions of the classic children’s television program in Bangladesh, Kosovo and South Africa. Teachers were inspired by the film and engaged in a great discussion about its focus on the positive and successful use of media in education. After the screening Milton Chen, executive director of the George Lucas Educational Foundation and former Sesame Street researcher, was joined onstage by longtime Muppeteer Dave Goelz and his alter ego Gonzo for a lively Q&A. All three guests helped choose the winners of the evening’s raffle, which included prizes of an SFFS membership and gift certificates for additional event sponsors Sports Basement and Hukilau Hawaiian Restaurant.
